The game Dragon Age : Inquisition is well known for its successful mix of action-driven plot and engaging in-game relationships. After all, RPGs give gamers the chance to experience new worlds in an almost personal way and Inquisition certainly immerses gamers in their romantic pursuits. Eight romance options are part of Inquisitioneach with a defined, compelling story at the core.

And while some definitely rank higher than others, all of them provide a unique, fulfilling journey that further elevates the gaming experience and offers a diversity of representative relationship options.

The Ambassador to the Inquisition, Josephine Montilyet is a sharp, cunning, and ever professional Antivan who acts as the diplomat to the organization. Serious but still willing to let loose when the occasion calls for it, she's an interesting, albeit underdeveloped, character.

All dragon age inquisition romances, ranked worst to best

Josephine can be romanced by a male or female Inquisitor of any class, and race, and she is unique in that her relationship is focused on the more romantic and chivalrous aspect of love. It's a nice enough quest and the player gets a tender scene by the fire with their heart's desire.

However, and compared to the other, more exciting and dynamic options in the game, Josephine's romance can't help but seem incomplete. Blackwall is one of the most intriguing characters in the game. Introduced as a rugged and dutiful Grey Warden, he holds a secret that both tortures and threatens him.

His story is quite surprising, but he still lacks some of the depth that makes the rest of the characters so compelling. Blackwall is a romance option only for female Inquisitors of any race.

Much like himself, his whole relationship is mysterious and surrounded by unanswered questions. Once his secret is revealed, the romance can take either a very dark turn, or carry on, finally under honest circumstances.

Sera isn't a romance option that appeals to all.

Some consider her antics brutish and annoying, while others appreciate the fun essence she brings to the playthrough. She's an elf and a rogue, a thief who loves to be a little disagreeable. Much like the character herself, the center of Sera's romance story is mischief and fun. She can only be romanced by females of any race, although her approval will be higher if the Inquisitor is either a Qunari or a dwarf.

Sera is definitely one of the most interesting companions, and while her romance is as bright as she is, it's still not as epic as some of the others available. Dorian is the very definition of cool. Sarcastic, witty, charming, and an unstoppable flirt, he's a Tevinter mage with a sharp tongue and a quick mind.

He has an engrossing backstory that never enters into melodramatic territory and offers helpful assistance while out in the field. Dorian is a male-only option, although female players can still flirt with him to gain his approval.

Dorian's romance is entertaining because his more egotistical and independent qualities make him hard to crack. However, once he fully commits to the relationship, he becomes a lot more loving.

Thus, the character actually evolves because of the romance, something that's further explored in the Trespasser DLC. One of the most developed companions, Cassandra Pentaghast has become a staple of the Dragon Age series. A Nevarran warrior, she's deeply religious and committed not only to the Chantry but also to the Inquisition.

She seems stiff and narrow-minded at first sight, but as the plot advances, her character is fleshed out, revealing a fascinating personality. If she becomes Divine by the end of the main story, then the romance takes a tragic turn that makes it even more complex. She can only be romanced by male Inquisitors.

And speaking of tragic romances, Solas' definitely takes the Crown in that department. He begins the story as an elven mage apostate, who offers his assistance to the Inquisition because of his vast knowledge of the Fade. By the end of the story, however, the dreadful truth about his true nature is revealed and he leaves the Inquisition to pursue his own goals.

Solas can only be romanced by female elven Inquisitors. The relationship is complicated because of how much of a mystery he is.

And of course, the ultimate tragedy at the end makes it unforgettable and unique, despite the bitter feeling it leaves in gamers' hearts. Like Cassandra, Cullen Rutherford is one of the most popular characters in the series. Stoic, courageous, righteous, soft-spoken, and deeply tortured, Cullen is pretty much a Byronic hero. A romantic option for female humans and elves, Cullen's relationship is also reminiscent of a romantic comedy. He's shy, a tad clumsy, and a lot less confident than he seems.

The mistakes of his past also haunt him and, throughout the story, the player can actually help him overcome them. Cullen's romance is one of the best because it has all the intricacies and complexities of a real love story, including an undoubtedly happy ending in the Trespasser DLC. Out of all the romantic options in Inquisitionnone is as interesting as the Iron Bull.

A Qunari warrior who loves dragons, violent battles, and a healthy amount of fun, Bull is a fascinating character. He's the captain of the Chargers, a group of mercenaries that offer their services to the Inquisition, but he's also an agent for the Ben-Hassrath, tasked with passing information about the Breach and the Inquisition itself. Bull is honest, direct, and practical, attributes that are hard to find in a man. However, he's also surprisingly loving and supportive, as his story soon reveals.

He can be pursued by male or female players of any race and his romance is one of the most positive and non-judgemental portrayals of a BDSM relationship in any form of media. It also involves killing a high-dragon and forging a necklace with one of its teeth, making it the most exciting and rewarding option in the game.
